Qacha’s Nek, Aug. 10 — Today witnessed an impromptu celebration for Tebello Ramakongoana’s outstanding performance as he secured 7th place in the Paris 2024 Olympic Marathon.
Melele residents, led by a convoy of cars honking in jubilation, paraded through local streets, with ululations and congratulatory messages echoing throughout the community.
Ramakongoana, a 27 year-old from Ha Mohlapiso, set a new national record with a time of 02:07:58. He qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after finishing 4th with a record time of 2:09:57 in a 42.2-kilometer race held in Budapest on August 27, 2023.
Speaking to the Agency on Saturday, Mr. Mosiuoa Nthakong praised Ramakongoana’s performance, stating, “I lack enough words to express my happiness because this is the first time in history that Lesotho has made it into the top 10.”
