HOME AFFAIRS GARDNER SENTECED FOR FOUR YEARS

Maseru, April. 28- – The Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced a 50-year-old Home Affairs gardener, Molefi Kocha, to four years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of fraud.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate Nkhethoa Molapo convicted Kocha following evidence led by the prosecution linking him to a passport fraud scheme targeting members of the public.

The court heard testimony from Lance Sergeant Ts’ots’otso, based at Police Headquarters and attached to the Ministry of Home Affairs, who stated that she was part of an operation aimed at curbing passport-related fraud and bribery.

She told the court that the accused approached her on several occasions offering to assist in expediting passport applications. Although she was not in uniform at the time, Kocha allegedly assured her that he could facilitate the processing of a passport and provided his contact details.

Ts’ots’otso further testified that she informed Kocha that the passport was needed for her sister, who had applied in December but had not yet received it. The accused allegedly indicated that he could assist for a fee of M600…
