GROW TO MARK MOSHOESHOE’S DAY

Mokhotlong, March 09 — GROW, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) that operates in Mokhotlong has organised an event to encourage Basotho children to love their culture and Sesotho language in honour of the founder of the Basotho nation.

The GROW Managing Director, Ms. Khothalang Borane said the event that will culminate into the spelling bee of Sesotho words will be held on Saturday as a way of marking Moshoeshoe’s Day.

She said normally spelling bee is conducted in English language but this time the plan is to promote Sesotho language by giving children the opportunity to come and increase their knowledge of their mother tongue language by spelling words.

Mr. Borane said the aim is to promote and encourage children to love the Sesotho language.

She further said beside the spelling bee activity, children are expected to come wearing traditional attire so as to promote the Basotho culture.

Moshoeshoe’s day is commemorated annually on March 11, which is the day on which Moshoeshoe I, founder of the Basotho nation died in 1870.

GROW was established as a Basotho owned NGO to implement commumity development prohrammes and to facilitate the empowerment of the poor.
