IEC, MEDIA MAKE LOCAL GOVT POSTMORTEM

Maseru, Jan 22 – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the media houses were engaged in a postmortem exercise of the previous Local Government elections at the one-day meeting held in Maseru on Monday.

IEC’s Civic and Voter Education Manager Mrs. Lydia Macheli said the main purpose of the exercise was for the Commission to engage all the stakeholders like the media to make a postmortem on last year’s Local Government elections to see the successes and failures in order to pave the way forward.

Mrs. Macheli said any inputs from the media will be well documented in order to be used for reference purposes in the upcoming Local Government elections to avoid repeating the same mistakes and to also do even better to deliver credible elections.

‘We always hear people talking about the IEC that it should produce free, fair and credible elections while the same people are not credible themselves’ she underlined. . .
