MASERU — The Government of Japan has donated more than M24 million to Lesotho in support of School Feeding Programme for pre-primary schools, following the country’s declaration of food insecurity due to prolonged drought.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Japanese Ambassador Mr. Shimizu Fumio emphasized that the donation, which includes canned fish, maize meal, and fresh vegetables, aims to improve child nutrition and support the mental and physical development of young learners.

He also mentioned that Japan is pleased to support Lesotho in this initiative. Proper nutrition is crucial for a child’s growth and learning.

On the other hand, WFP Lesotho Country Director Mr. Elliot Vhurumuku welcomed the donation, saying it arrives at a critical time when WFP is in need of more assistance to support food security within the country saying that this support will ensure for an uninterrupted food supply for pre-primary schools and significantly impacts children from vulnerable households. . .
