DROUGHT IMPACT NEGATIVELY ON PUBLIC HEALTH

Botha-Bothe, Sept.13 — When a drought strikes a region, it affects various aspects of life, and public health is no exception. The lives of individuals can be significantly impacted in numerous ways.

As water becomes increasingly scarce, people often resort to procuring water from unconventional sources, such as uncovered wells, streams, and rivers.

Mrs. Moliehi Senekane, a representative from the Health Department in Botha-Bothe, warns that obtaining water from these sources can pose serious health risks, including the transmission of diseases like cholera and other waterborne illnesses.

To address this growing concern, public gatherings are organized during droughts to educate the public on the importance of boiling water from any available source. Boiling water effectively eliminates harmful germs that may be present.
