ACCUSED RELATES HOW PHONE GOT HIM INTO TROUBLE

Maseru, Sept. 16 —- Motlatsi Ts’ooana (42) of Ha Sekete in Berea has on Tuesday related to the High Court how  a second hand phone got him into trouble.

When testifying in his own defence, he stated that on the night of August 28 2018, he was shot several times and injured by the police. He stated that he was admitted in ICU adding that he had two operations. He further added that he was released from hospital on October 05 2018 though he could not walk following the shooting. He pointed out that he sued the police and got compensated.

The accused stated that while still hospitalised, he made friends with Thamae Lekhotla whom he met through a childhood friend called Ts’epang Khosi. He indicated that during his shooting, his phone disappeared therefore his new friend Lekhotla promised to get him another phone. He said the phone came through Khothatso Mpenyane who asked him to pay M300 for it as he did not have transport money to go to South Africa. He added that Lekhotla assisted him to unlock the phone.

He told the court that he used the phone from November 2018 until early 2019 when he exchanged it with Moorosi Lebajoa. He said in 2020 he got a call from a Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Police Officer from Mabote Police Station who introduced himself as Mahlaha. He indicated that the police officer told him to report himself to the police station but he told him that he could not because he was unable to walk.
