AFRICAN POLITICAL PARTIES SUMMIT GOES TO ETHIOPIA

Maseru, Aug.27 — The second edition of the African Political Parties Summit (APPS) will be hosted by Ethiopia in Addis Ababa from November 5 to 7, 2026.

According to the APPS statement, the Africa Governance Centre (AGC) is organizing the event in collaboration with the Ethiopian government under the high patronage of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

The summit is under the theme,“Governing for Growth: Political Parties as Architects of Africa’s Economic Future.”

The statement indicates that the summit focuses on how political leadership can drive industrialization, regional integration and inclusive development.

It states that the summit also aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 vision for a peaceful, prosperous and integrated continent.

The statement further indicates that this builds upon the inaugural 2025 summit held in Accra, Ghana, which produced the Accra Declaration. The Addis Ababa event aims to establish new commitments through the Addis Ababa Declaration.

Moreover, it notes that the summit will focus on increasing youth involvement in political systems.

“This will also highlight pathways for greater female representation and inclusive governance”, reads the statement.

Meanwhile the gathering will convene political party leaders, policymakers, parliamentarians, civil society members, youth advocates, private sector representatives and media to strengthen democratic institutions and build resilient economies across Africa.
