MASERU — The Head of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) in Lesotho, Archbishop Tlali Lerotholi OMI, has called on Basotho across different Christian denominations to spiritually prepare for the country’s upcoming 60th independence anniversary.
Archbishop Lerotholi made the remarks in an interview with the Agency following the unveiling of the diamond jubilee logo ahead of the celebrations marking 60 years since Lesotho attained independence from Britain in 1966.
He noted that a jubilee is a significant milestone, coming just two years after the nation commemorated the life and legacy of Morena Moshoeshoe I, founder of the Basotho nation.
The Archbishop emphasised the importance of introspection during this period, urging Basotho to reflect on the values of peace, wisdom and forgiveness exemplified by the late Moshoeshoe I, who used these principles to resolve conflicts.
He further stated that faith without action is futile, adding that Basotho should use this moment to celebrate the milestone while reaffirming unity and support for the Royal Family, which continues to play a key role in uniting the nation.
Archbishop Lerotholi also encouraged collective prayer for the country’s peace and development, particularly in light of ongoing global conflicts and economic challenges.
Lesotho gained independence on October 4, 1966, marking its establishment as a sovereign state.
