CHILD CARE FACILITIES STRENGTHEN CAPACITY

Maseru, Jan. 15 — The Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development, through its Department of Children, has attended a two-day workshop aimed at consolidating lessons from previous training sessions and assessing progress made by Child Care Facilities across the country.

The workshop, held in Maseru, was hosted by the Higherlife Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Econet Telecom Lesotho.

Speaking at the event, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Mrs. Mahlapane Makakole-Bodiba, commended Child Care Facilities for their continued commitment to the welfare of children despite facing numerous challenges.

She expressed gratitude for their dedication, stressing  that a child is raised by a village, and noted that the Ministry cannot provide adequate care and protection for children without the collaboration and support of these facilities.

Meanwhile, Econet Telecom Lesotho Acting General Manager for Public Relations and Customer Experience, Mrs. Puleng ‘Mathabo Masoabi, said the workshop was a follow-up to a capacity-building initiative held in February.

She explained that participants were being equipped with essential skills, including budgeting, financial reporting, project management, digital marketing, and other business-related competencies aimed at strengthening the sustainability and effectiveness of Child Care Facilities.

During the engagement, representatives from various Child Care Facilities shared their achievements as well as challenges encountered in the provision of care and protection for children.

This exchange formed a key objective of the workshop, allowing stakeholders to reflect on practical experiences and identify areas requiring further support.

Child Care Facilities from across the country attended the workshop in large numbers.
