DAYS AFTER HEAVY RAINS, PULANE LEARNERS STILL STRANDED

Berea, March 03 — Learners from Pulane Primary and Pulane Secondary schools in Ha Mokhameleli, Berea remain unable to attend classes days after heavy rains destroyed a key bridge connecting the community to the schools.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Ha Mokhameleli councilor, Mr. Malefetsane Pitso stated that the situation has persisted since the heavy downpours, and no repairs have been made.

“Children can not cross the river on foot, and it is not even safe for horses. Parents are afraid to let them attempt crossing because the water level remain dangerously high,” he said.

Mr. Pitso added that the community still remembers a tragic incident in which the same river swept away an 8 year-old child on December 24, 2023 and has never been found.

The damaged bridge, which serves as the main crossing point for learners, has left dozens stranded as the river continues to flow strongly, making it unsafe to cross.
