Maseru, Aug. 30 — The National Assembly should not be seen to be quiet as speculations are hovering that the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) is searching for some Parliamentarians.
These views were expressed by the Chairperson of Committees Chairpersons, Mr. Mokhothu Makhalanyane after standing with a point of order in the House on Friday.
He explained Basotho are already talking about the matter in different platforms, indicating the practice in other Parliaments of the world would be to shed light with the nation.
“This is a respected House and should remain as such, not saying anything would mean we are leaving crucial matters unattended,” he stressed.
He advised the House through the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Ts’epang Ts’ita – Mosena to establish how best to proactively deal with the matter to avoid being labelled as corrupt yet important matters of the nation that include budget are handled by the House.
In the same way, the Deputy Speaker said the point of order has duly been noted and the matter will be dealt with accordingly.
The DCEO is tasked with the responsibility to fight corruption so as to enhance the principles of democracy.
