Maseru, Feb. 02- Construction facilities worth M8.5 million at ‘Mamoeketsi Community Primary School were officially handed over by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) on Monday.

The project, supported by the American Embassy, was handed over by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo, on behalf of the Minister of Education and Training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Maqelepo said the development forms part of a broader campaign aimed at strengthening education across the country. He noted that when nations collaborate, significant progress can be achieved, and commended the United States for its continued support.

He expressed appreciation that the project was implemented at ‘Mamoeketsi, saying it will enhance modern learning in the community and nurture future generations. “This support contributes positively to the national education agenda,” he said.

Chief of the United States Military Group, South Africa, Lieutenant Colonel Norman Wilson, described the initiative as a demonstration of a shared vision in advancing the education system. He said the development would help maintain ‘Mamoeketsi’ as a beacon of hope for future leaders.

In his capacity as Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Maqelepo also donated two netballs and two footballs to promote sports development at the school. He further indicated that there are plans to construct a swimming pool at the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF).

Member of Parliament, Ms. Itumeleng Rants’o, said the infrastructural development is an investment in future leaders, as it will inspire and ignite a spirit of innovation among learners.

On behalf of the community, Qoaling Chief Taelo Matsoso expressed gratitude to the American Embassy and MoET for uplifting ‘Mamoeketsi to its current standard.

The school principal, Mrs. Mpeo Makhetha, said the handed-over facilities — including a metered water installation system, perimeter fencing, a science laboratory, toilets and refurbished classrooms — will create an enabling environment for improved academic performance.

One of the learners, Ts’ereletso Tieho (Grade 7), said the new facilities will allow them to engage in practical learning, provide a safer environment and improve their academic results.

The event was attended by learners, representatives from neighbouring schools and members of the community.
