ENERGY MINISTRY LAUNCHES FREE ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT IN HA MAKHOROANA

Berea , February 16 — The Ministry of Energy today launched a rural electrification project covering Tebalete and Liotloaneng villages in Ha Makhoroana.

Speaking at the launch, Rural Electrification Officer Mr Kolomane Ramakoro said the project will fully cover both villages, ensuring that every household receives electricity.

“This electrification is free for all residents. No one is required to pay,” he said.

Mr Ramakoro explained that the initiative falls under the Ministry’s Rural Electrification Unit and is aimed at improving living standards in remote communities.

A local committee member, Mrs Makabelo Ramaema, said the project has been in the pipeline since 2019.

“Being part of a committee that seeks to empower its community without knowing how to go about it is very difficult, especially without resources. It even leads to community members losing hope in us,” she said

Mrs Ramaema added that despite the challenges, the committee persevered until the project materialised.

“We persevered, and now we are here, having electricity,” she said, expressing gratitude to the government for fulfilling its promise.
The electrification project is expected to significantly improve livelihoods in the two villages.
