FIRE RAVAGES EIGHT SHACKS, VENDORS LOSE EVERYTHING

Qacha’s Nek, Aug. 09 — Melele were struck by tragedy early Friday morning as eight street vendors’ shacks were reduced to ashes by a devastating fire.

The blaze is suspected to have been caused by a wildfire that started near the gate of the District Education Offices.

A resident, who noticed the fire as it reached the fence, attempted to extinguish it using 20 liters of water in the chicken coop but was unsuccessful.

The strong winds only fueled the flames, which quickly spread to other shacks. Water was available at the upper offices, but it was too late to stop the fire’s spread.
