GOVERNMENT APPOINTS ACTING DPP

Maseru, July 17 — The government has appointed Advocate Lehlanako Mofelikoane as the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) effective from June 30, 2025.

This was revealed by the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation Ms Nthati Moorosi, when unpacking Cabinet decisions at Lesotho National Broadcasting Services.

Ms. Moorosi said the appointment of Advocate Mofelikoane follows the suspension of the DPP, Advocate Hlalefang Motinyane.

Meanwhile the Agency has earlier learnt that Adv. Motinyane was suspended by the Prime Minister (PM) through a letter which indicated a number of issues against the DPP which include amongst others, failure to issue prosecution directives as required by Section 99 of the Constitution. The Agency has also learnt that the Law Society of Lesotho earlier issued a statement, challenging the suspension of Adv. Motinyane, citing constitutional violations and potential threats to judicial independence.

The Office of the Director Of Public Prosecution is responsible to prosecute criminal cases on behalf of the King/Crown at the Subordinate Courts, High Court and Court of Appeal.
