HAKANE WANTS PROPER SANITATION

Maseru, July 30 — A Member of Parliament (MP) for Qeme Constituency 47, Mr. Sello Hakane says with support of stakeholders, he is revamping toilets at ‘Matikoe high school and constructing new ones at Tseka primary respectively.

This he said in an interview with the Agency on Thursday, further indicating that the refurbishment is meant to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), aiming to promote universal access to safe and equitable sanitation and hygiene to all.

In addition, he stipulated that as an MP representing Economic and Development Cluster, he has also established that cleanliness or proper sanitation lays strong foundations in achieving economic growth.

“If we are to achieve economic growth and the Lesotho We Want, we should take care of future generations, ensure that they have amongst others access to sanitation so that they can perform well at school while also maintaining cleanliness and good health,” he said.

He mentioned that he will soon visit the aforementioned schools in an attempt to measure progress as the intention is to ensure that in due course the work is completed.

Meanwhile, he appealed to those with authority to take charge and lead in their respective areas, this by joining community efforts aimed at changing the lives of the society. Therefore, he is hoping that once construction and refurbishment are complete, the toilets will officially be handed over to the said schools.

Globally, United Nations (UN) has shown than four billion people lack safely managed sanitation services, and millions of children die each year from WASH- Water Sanitation Hygiene

related illnesses.
