Mohale’s Hoek, Dec. 10 — 24 out of 306 inmates from Mohale’s Hoek Correctional Services are reported to be attending classes learning how to read and write.
This has been confirmed by an officer commanding the institution, Senior Superintendent Letlaka Banyane in an interview with the Agency, by noting classes were put on hold during Covid-19 pandemic and are now in operation, asserting that some are in grade 6 and 7, while others are in grade 1 respectively.
SSP Banyane stated that it is crucial for inmates to learn how to read and write as their personal growth depends on it, pointing out that if inmates want to be involved in farming, all information is written in pamphlets, noting it is their wish that in the coming year the numbers will increase.
He concluded by asserting that even if it means forcing the inmates to study in 2025 his office will do so because in the end the initiative is meant to benefit them, once they are released to their communities.
