Beijing, June 24 — Language remains a major barrier to communication across the world and can sometimes hinder cooperation and progress among people from different countries.
This was said by Professor Hong Li from the Communication University of China during her presentation on an overview of China’s national conditions at the ongoing Ministerial Seminar on New Media Capacity Building for Women Officials from Belt and Road countries, attended by 24 women from 11 countries.
In her presentation, Professor Hong indicated that China is a vast and diverse country with a rich cultural heritage, multiple ethnic groups and varying regional characteristics that contribute to its national identity and development.
She mentioned that effective communication and mutual understanding among nations are essential for strengthening international cooperation, promoting development, and fostering peaceful relations.
She noted that despite advances in technology and digital communication, language differences continue to pose challenges in information sharing and cross-cultural engagement.
She however urged participants to embrace cultural exchange, learn from one another, and make use of modern communication tools to bridge language gaps and enhance cooperation among countries.
Meanwhile, Professor Hong also emphasized the importance of cultural diversity saying that different cultures enrich human civilization and provide opportunities for people to learn, innovate, and build stronger relationships based on mutual respect and understanding.
She added that appreciating cultural differences can help create a more inclusive global community and contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity among nations.
