LCCU FOR VIGILANCE

Maseru, Nov. 03 — With the year approaching the end and the festive season in its full swing, the Lesotho Child Counseling Unit (LCCU) has encouraged parents and guardians to always be vigilant and ensure the safety of children.

The Director LCCU Ms. Lydia Muso says with recent reports of missing children some of whom are found dead in the country, the organisation is concerned about the safety of children. She pointed out that this issue requires attention as well as concerted efforts, not only from parents, guardians and teachers, but also from community leaders and the government.

She stated that soon the school holidays will commence and some children will be left unattended and vulnerable. She indicated that parents should train their children about their rights as well as how to detect and respond to danger. She emphasised that they should ensure that they know emergency numbers.

She discouraged parents from leaving children on their own and urged them to always seek assistance from neighbours and relatives. She reminded parents that they have the responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children.
