Maseru, July 04 — Some Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) Officers were not ashamed of assaulting the late inmate, Bokang Tsoako to death as they even joked about it.
This was revealed by Tlotliso Bereng, who is now paralysed after being assaulted by LCS recruits during the search exercise that was conducted at Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) on December 22 last year.
Mr. Bereng told the Commission Of Inquiry on the escape of inmates, during his testimony that when he was taken to Queen Mamohato Memorial hospital, he was taken through the vehicle that ferried the late Tsoako.
“I was scared and did not want to enter the vehicle with the deceased because he was already dead,” he said, indicating that the driver who is also an officer laughed and joked by asking him whether he was scared that people might say the deceased was killed by him.
