MASERU — The Minister of Energy Mr. Mohlomi Moleko says Lesotho is on National journey towards universal energy access, resilient, inclusive and sustainable energy future, this he said during the Lesotho Energy Access Dialogue held in Maseru on Wednesday.
Speaking at the dialogue, the Minister stated that as the government, they are bound by a shared vision to propel Lesotho towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), Affordable, Reliable, Sustainable, and Modern Energy for All, adding that this is a call to action, a space where policy meets practice, where innovation meets investment, and where commitments must transform into concrete results.
“The timing could not be more perfect, as the Government of Lesotho is preparing an Energy Compact to participate in the Mission 300 initiative by the World Bank and the African Development Bank to assist African Countries in Sub Saharan Africa to provide an additional 300 million people with access to electricity by 2030. It is my sincere belief that the issues raised in this forum should further refine this ambitious plan that the Government is embarking on with the assistance of Development Partners”, he said.
He further noted that the rationale for the above statement is that, Lesotho continues to face significant energy challenges access remains below 55%, with rural communities disproportionately affected, with only 11% having access to electricity. . .
