Maseru, Mar. 12 — Lesotho is reported to be losing a number of trees at an alarming rate as people are cutting down forests in their communities with purposes such as fighting against crime and for wood harvesting and the consequences to this matter are dreadful.
In an inclusive interview with the Agency, a community member Mr. Thabiso Khutlane indicated that they cut down forests in their societies to fight against crime related activities and wrongful drug usage that most people do in the forests in their villages.
He further stated that most people cut down trees to sell wood as a means of income earning and this leads to a number of forests being cut down which in turn leads to the formation of terrible dongas because of flooding and soil erosion on deforested places.
