LESOTHO’S FOURTH COALITION GOVERNMENT CELEBRATES 3 YEARS

Mohale’s Hoek, Oct.28 — Lesotho’s fourth coalition government led by Revolutionary for Prosperity (RFP) is on Tuesday celebrating 3 years in governance.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Justice Nthomeng Majara, in celebration of the three years, cabinet decided to have a three-day retreat as a reflector meeting where they will review what they have achieved since 2022.

DPM highlighted that their coalition is the first coalition to make in it to three years in power since 2012 noting the milestone is worth celebrating.

She highlighted that after realising that they have reached almost half of their term in government as His Majesty’s Cabinet, they made a plan to come together an introspect on various issues,  such as their mandate and promises made during election campaigns.

“After being sworn in power, and telling communities the type of services to expect, based on  manifestos of partnering political parties, we all agreed on priority areas which some were already outlined by the National Strategic Development Plan with Agriculture  being the first one,” she stressed.

She mentioned that the reviews will also measure their achievement and refocusing as they will now look at issues that have not been tackled from their original plan, while also taking to consideration challenges that they face.

On the other hand the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation Ms. Nthati Moorosi, indicated that Prime Minister’s inaugural speech which gave Ministers directions, as well as having the extended National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP II), both milestones serve as reminder of the social contract the government made with Basotho, and its responsibility to the nation.

Ms. Moorosi further asserted that the retreat will also serve as a team building exercise, where upon completion ministers are expected to show a united front, and work jointly under leadership of Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane, as their term is about to come to an end.

The re-treat is reported by Ms. Moorosi as a continuation of the one held in Maseru about two weeks ago.

The coalition government comprise Revolution for Prosperity (RFP), Movement for Economic Change (MEC), Alliance of Democrats (AD) and Basotho Action Party (BAP).
