Maseru, Oct. 24 – Despite arable land that Lesotho has, production of vegetables is still a challenge.
This was said by Maluti Fresh Produce Market Master Mr. Thabo Khalema speaking with LENA on Tuesday.
Mr. Khalema said the Produce Market has since been faced with a challenge of providing enough vegetables for customers due to limited production from farmers.
He said this triggered the Produce Market to end up importing some of the vegetables from South Africa, saying the only vegetable that the market is able to provide throughout the year is cabbage.
He indicated that they are currently importing potatoes, tomatoes, carrots and beetroot from South Africa as they are limited and out of season in the country.
‘’Potato production is a huge challenge as local farmers indicated that they were unable to get its seeds on time hence there is shortage” he said.
