Maseru, Jan.20—After years of operating from the rented office space, Manonyane Community Council will finally have its own offices following the construction currently going on at Mahlanyeng in Roma.
Speaking in an interview with the Council Chairperson Mr. Makhaola Chele said this is an achievement that they are finally going to have their own Council building saying they have been waiting for this for a very long time. “This is quite an achievement especially since our Council serves so many villages”, he said.
He said the contractor was presented to the Council last week adding that the construction which is spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government is already underway.
He urged the community to have collaboration with the contractor and ensure that there is no vandalism to the site.
Manonyane community Council is located in Maseru district. In 2006 it had a population of about 22,491 with about 73 villages under its service.
Meanwhile the construction of community council offices is part of a broader effort to decentralize services and improve local governance. These offices are designed to create a conducive work environment for community councils which are responsible for various local government foundations.
The construction of these offices is a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of local governance in Lesotho.
