MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, CAFI TO TRAIN FRUIT FARMERS ON AGRIBUSINESS AND MARKET ACCESS

Maseru, Jan.16— The Lesotho Horticultural Incubation and Training Centre (LHITC), under the Competitiveness and Financial Inclusion Project (CAFI) Project, will host a two-day capacity-building workshop for deciduous fruit farmers from January 21 in Mahobong in Leribe.

The workshop, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, is aimed at strengthening the capacity of fruit farmers currently under incubation, equipping them with skills to develop and manage profitable agribusiness enterprises.

Speaking in an interview, CAFI Communications Specialist Ms. Lihaelo Nkaota said  the objective of this workshop is to capacitate deciduous fruit farmers so that they can operate their farms as sustainable businesses, not just production units.

She mentioned that the training responds to the growing need to transform subsistence farming into commercially viable ventures.

She explained that participants will receive training on productivity improvement, sustainable agricultural practices and market-oriented skills, with a strong focus on value addition and buyer negotiation.

“We want farmers to understand the full value chain moving from production to the market therefore negotiation skills and value addition are critical if farmers are to secure better prices and long-term market relationships,” she noted…
