Berea, January 16 — The Area Technical Officer, Ms Ntefeleng Tsolo, is hosting a food preservation workshop on January 19 at the Resource Center in Mapoteng to coincide with the current preservation season.
The workshop is open to nutrition club members and interested individuals.
According to Ms. Tsolo, the training aims to equip participants with skills to generate income through food preservation.
“One of the reasons is that we want to impart skills that will also allow them to generate income through preservation,” she said.
The training will cover key considerations for food preservation, focusing on improving hygiene education. Participants will also receive tips on food packaging, labeling, and storage, addressing concerns about food waste due to lack of knowledge.
“The training will teach them to increase shelf life, improve nutrition value, enhance dietary diversity, and increase supply during times of scarcity and drought,” Ms Tsolo explained.
Participants will learn to preserve vegetables in various forms, such as juicing, retaining nutrients and allowing for personalized health adjustments.
The workshop promises to empower participants with practical skills to reduce food waste and improve food security.
