Botha-Bothe April 30 — The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) ’Muela branch on Monday marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work by hosting a wellness day aimed at promoting mental and psychosocial wellbeing among staff.
The event brought together employees who participated in a range of activities, including mind games and wellness exercises designed to support rehabilitation and strengthen psychosocial support within the workplace.
Speaking in an interview, LHDA Senior Officer for Occupational Health and Safety, Environment and Quality, Mrs Maesaih Hlaping, said Lesotho, as a member of the International Labour Organization, commemorates the day annually on April 28 in line with global themes.
She said this year’s theme, “Promoting a healthy psychosocial work environment,” highlights the importance of addressing mental and emotional wellbeing in addition to physical safety.
“This theme goes beyond issues such as workplace fatalities, use of protective gear or physical injuries. It also speaks to employees who may be overwhelmed by heavy workloads, affecting their ability to function properly,” she said.
Mrs Hlaping noted that such challenges can result in workplace accidents, delays in operations and reduced productivity.
“When employees lack psychosocial support, it affects overall production. This highlights the need to take care of staff wellbeing,” she added…
