The Department of Environment and Forestry will on Friday implement the Green Initiative Recovery Programme through a tree-planting campaign at Mapholaneng Primary School in Mokhotlong.
In an interview, the Department’s District Coordinator, Mrs. Nokhwezi Mjanyelwa, said the initiative is aimed at strengthening land management efforts by increasing tree cover and restoring the natural environment.
She noted that the programme also seeks to rehabilitate degraded rangelands, control soil erosion and improve livelihoods for local communities.
Mrs. Mjanyelwa added that the activities are designed to promote a resilient landscape and ensure sustainable land use for future generations.
The event is expected to be officiated by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Letsema Adonts’i. Meanwhile, Lesotho continues to implement the Green Recovery Initiative to address environmental challenges such as soil erosion, landscape degradation and energy sustainability.
The initiative is supported through partnerships with the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with key activities including large-scale tree planting in Botha-Bothe and Qacha’s Nek districts.
