MOSOTHO MAN IDENTIFIED AMONG 10 DEAD BODIES

Maseru, Feb. 19 — South African Police Service (SAPS) identified 10 bodies of the illegal miners from Buffelsfontein Gold Mine shaft No.11 in the ongoing investigation.

According to SAPS, DNA samples were acquired from 78 retrieved bodies during the mine rescue operation and 54 fingerprints were obtained for comparison and the process resulted in the identification of 10 bodies.

Among the identified bodies, 7 are from Mozambique, 1 Zimbabwe, 1 South Africa and 1 Lesotho.

Furthermore SAPS reported that five suspected illegal miner’s died while admitted to hospital between January 20 and February 12, 2025. Four resurfaced at Buffelsfontein and one at Margaret shaft.
