MPHAKA IDENTIFIES WEAKNESSES, STRENGTHS IN BUDGET

Maseru, Feb. 19 – Judiciary, Police, office of the Auditor General and Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) are pillars of good governance and yet the 2025/26 budget failed to hammer much on these aspects.

The Former Accountant General, Mr. Sam Mphaka mentioned that amongst others, he had expected the finance minister to touch deeply on the above-mentioned sectors, in terms of tackling embezzlement, corruption and fraud that is rife in government Ministries and Agencies amongst others.

“For the Minister to have said the Auditor General would do surprise audits is not convincing as this matter is deeper than it seems”. For instance, he stated bribery in exchange for government services hinders government efforts…
