NAMIBIAN PRESIDENT LATE TO REST

Maseru, Feb. 25 — Lesotho has joined the rest of the African Heads of States for the funeral service of the late President of Namibia which is held in Namibia today (Sunday).

President Hage Geingob was a Namibian politician who served as the third president of Namibia from 2015 until he met his death in February 04.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Sunday, the Press Attaché at the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Thapelo Mabote stated that Lesotho is represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane.

He indicated that on Saturday, the Prime Minister Mr. Ntokonae Matekane was accompanied by his coalition partners Professor Ntoi Rapapa, Professor Nqosa Mahao as well as Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane to attend the memorial service which was held in Namibia.

He further mentioned that also invited to honour this event was the former Prime Ministers of Lesotho Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili as well as Dr. Moeketsi Majoro who failed to attend the event due to unforeseen circumstances.

Born August, 03 1941, Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002, and served as prime minister again from 2012 to 2015. Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry.

In November 2014, Geingob was elected president of Namibia by an overwhelming margin. In November 2017, Geingob became the third president of the ruling SWAPO Party after winning by a large margin at the party’s sixth Congress.

He served as the party’s president until his death. In August 2018, Geingob began a one-year term as chairperson of the Southern African Development Community.
