SENTEBALE CONTINUES TO PROMOTE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Maseru, Feb. 25 — With its programmes targeting Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), Sentebale continues to promote youth development in the country.

According to their monthly report, they are currently focusing on mobilisation of the AGYW to conduct participatory action research. It states that qualitative research methods are used in trying to establish what contributes to low intake of PreP among the AGYW aged 19-24. It is pointed out that the aim is to help the youth increase the intake of PreP.

According to the report, Sentebale has been engaged by the Ministry of Finance – Project Management Unit to serve as the sub-recipient for HIV/TB prevention program for the AGYW and their male partners aged 15 -24 years in Leribe, Butha Buthe, Mokhotlong, Thaba Tseka,Qacha’s Nek and Quthing.

It indicates that a peer education approach is used to increase comprehensive knowledge on the prevention of HIV and TB for the target population. It adds that the aim is to also positively influence their attitudes, behaviour and perceptions. It further adds that this is in order to ensure that they make informed decisions about their lives and avoid risky behaviour that may expose them to HIV and TB.

Sentebale was founded in Lesotho in 2006 with the aim to respond to the needs of children and young people in Lesotho with focus on those living with or affected by HIV, especially the most vulnerable who are often challenged by issues of deprivation, exploitation, abuse or neglect.
