Maseru, June 24 — The morning hours of Wednesday saw the recently opened Spetzo’s Coffee Shop in the city being struck by fire, leaving over 20 employees marooned while halting operations.
As they say, fire has a lifecycle: start, growth, peak intensity and burnout hence understanding the progression enables responders to act strategically, save lives and of course the extent of the fire.
Therefore, a tenant, Mr. Mothala Matsoso thanked Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS), department of Fire Extinguishers who rushed to the restaurant, strengthening them as they were already using fire extinguishers already in place or available at the shop.
He explained that it was too early to suspect the cause of the fire as Insurance officers were already present upon the Agency’s arrival to engage in preliminary reports that would lead to the exact cause of fire.
However, he only told the Agency that the fire seem to have started on the other level of the building where he implied there is a chimney as their job entails preparing coffee, pizza’s, scones, ice creams and other things for the clientele.
The tenant further assured the nation no life has been harmed that they all came out uninjured while the fire has been contained even though a larger part of their equipment has been destroyed. “These include pizza boxes, tumblers, cups and many more leaving scared.”
He was also unable to predict a total amount for this loss as he also suspected that electrical appliances might have been affected badly as they were using water to contain the situation.
In another story, the Agency has learnt that this is not the first incident of its kind that has occurred at LNDC this winter season as the Ministry of Defence also caught fire recently.
In another story, fire experts on social media warned that fire protection begins with pro-active readiness, urging all including businesses to assess risks based on their operations, occupancy and location, hence a well prepared strategy contributes to reducing harm and speeding up recovery.
