Maseru, June 16 — The Ministry of Health’s Mental Health Programme will hold a high-level stakeholder engagement meeting aimed at finalising and strengthening Lesotho’s Mental Health Policy following its successful validation in Maseru on Wednesday.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Tuesday, the Director of Mental Health Acting, Dr. Thabo Mokhothu mentioned that the meeting will bring together leaders of organisations, associations, government departments and individuals who have played a key role in shaping the policy.
He indicated that the validation of the Mental Health Policy marks an important milestone for the programme and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the policy development process.
“This is a high-level, inclusive stakeholder engagement, inviting leaders from organisations that have helped shape this policy. We greatly appreciate representation from all invited organisations,” he said.
He added that the engagement will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to review the policy, share recommendations and strengthen collaboration in advancing mental health services and support across the country.
Stakeholders have also been encouraged to provide feedback on the policy, with written submissions welcomed as part of efforts to ensure the document reflects the needs and aspirations of Basotho.
The Mental Health Policy is expected to guide the country’s response to mental health challenges and improve access to quality mental health care for all Basotho.
