Beijing, June 24 — The Government of the People’s Republic of China through the China Women’s University is hosting 24 women officials and media professionals from 11 countries for the 10 days Ministerial Seminar on New Media Capacity Building for Women Officials from Belt and Road Countries.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Vice President of China Women’s University, Ms. XUE Xiaoli said that the seminar provides an important platform for advancing women’s empowerment, promoting gender equality, and fostering mutual learning among civilizations.
Ms. Xiaoli noted that the programme will facilitate cultural exchanges and strengthen the capacity of women leaders and professionals in the rapidly evolving digital and media landscape.
She emphasized that empowering women remains an urgent global priority and highlighted China’s commitment to sharing its development experiences and expertise to support partner countries.
“China is willing to share its experience without reservation to improve development capacity, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to fairer and more equitable international relations,” she said.
She added that enhanced cooperation among Belt and Road countries will contribute to sustainable global development and create more opportunities for women to participate in leadership, communication, and innovation.
On behalf of the participants, Ms. Ravza Kavakcikan expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government and China Women’s University for organizing the seminar.
She described the initiative as a significant step towards empowering women and strengthening their role in society through knowledge sharing and skills development.
The seminar has brought together participants from Lesotho, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Turkey, The Gambia, Rwanda, Malaysia, Grenada, Barbados, Cabo Verde, and Mongolia.
Lesotho is represented by Mrs. ‘Makabelo Ramanyalane and Mrs. Libobotho Thebetsoeu from the Lesotho News Agency (LENA).
The seminar aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by promoting women’s leadership and participation in decision-making processes; SDG 4 (Quality Education) through capacity building and skills development; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by strengthening competencies in new media and digital communication; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering international cooperation and knowledge exchange among Belt and Road countries.
Through initiatives such as this seminar, participating countries are expected to enhance women’s contribution to national development while promoting inclusive and sustainable growth in the digital era.
