Berea, June 23 — Today, the Royal Family visited Maluti Adventist Hospital as part of the continued celebrations marking the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso, whose actual birthday was on June 2. The celebration holds special significance as Her Majesty was born at this hospital.
Explaining the purpose of the visit, the Communications Officer of Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe, Mr. Khotso Moletsane, said the event was organised to celebrate the Queen by returning to where her story began. He said Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe found it fitting to mark the occasion by giving back to the hospital, with support from sponsors World Vision Lesotho and UNICEF.
“We have brought blankets, welcoming blankets for infants, heaters for the maternity and paediatric wards, among other items,” he said. He expressed hope that the donations would be given to those in need and used for their intended purpose.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Maluti Adventist Hospital, Mrs. Mamokobo Lebeo, said the hospital was truly honoured to host the Royal Family. She noted that the Queen’s decision to celebrate her Golden Jubilee at the hospital reflects the quality of service provided by the institution.
Mrs. Lebeo encouraged nurses and healthcare workers to always treat patients with kindness, as they never know who they may be serving. She added that it could be a future Prime Minister, a Queen, or even a Chief Executive Officer, noting that she herself was also born at Maluti Adventist Hospital.
Delivering his remarks, the Principal Chief of Koeneng and Mapoteng, Chief Peete Lesaoana Peete, said he was honoured that the Queen’s parents chose Mapoteng as the place of her birth. He added that the area would forever hold a place in history because it is where the Queen was born. He further encouraged healthcare workers to continue providing quality services and wished Her Majesty a happy Golden Jubilee.
In her closing remarks, Her Majesty the Queen thanked His Majesty King Letsie III for suggesting that her birthday celebrations be marked in a way that would also allow her to give back to the community. She noted that Maluti Adventist Hospital serves people from across the country, including those from districts such as Thaba-Tseka.
Her Majesty also thanked the hospital’s medical staff for their dedication and quality service. She expressed her gratitude for being able to celebrate her Golden Jubilee at the place where her life journey began.
