NUL POST GRADUATES PRESENT THEIR PETITION

Maseru, April 22 — The National University of Lesotho masters students submitted their petition before the portfolio committee on economic and social cluster about their grievances on scholarships from the National Manpower Development Secretariat.

The Chairperson of the social cluster, Mr. Mokhothu Makhalanyane said last year NMDS highlighted that their quota for science facilities is only 200, but they discovered only 83 were sponsored.

He stated that since NMDS prioritized the Science Department, it was expected that 200 students would secure scholarships without any struggle stating that even minor courses like Agriculture production of formula mixtures for animals are not there in the country.

Mr. Tsitso Khereng, a Masters student range resource and fodder production said they want the committees to intervene so that they get sponsors to further their studies.

He explained this year January they signed contracts but on March 04, 2026 they were called to NMDS and were told that they have received the bursary fraudulently and should pay back the money, adding that later they were given house allowances.

Director NMDS Loan Bursary, Mr. Thabo Ntoi said if the students  have two  debts (loans)  they have to pay the first 50 percent of the loan to receive a scholarship to further studies.
