ORGANISATIONS LAUNCH MEN’S DIALOGUE PROGRAMME

Maseru, June 26 — The Crime Prevention, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ex-Offenders Association (CRROA), together with partner organisations, has launched a men’s dialogue programme aimed at reclaiming men’s identity, addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting healing among Basotho men.

The programme was launched in collaboration with Men Psycho Emotional First Aid (MPEFA), the Military Veterans Association Lesotho (MVAL) and Maqoqolo Sakeng.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Mr. Thae Makhele, said the initiative seeks to address issues of identity, gender-based violence, relationships, responsibility and the building of peaceful communities.

Mr. Makhele said many men are serving prison sentences, adding that statistics indicate there are fewer men than women in Lesotho. He noted that the programme seeks to empower men and encourage them to become responsible members of society.

He stressed that violence has no gender, adding that Lesotho is a peaceful nation where everyone should live in harmony regardless of gender.

Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Crime Prevention, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ex-Offenders Association, Mr. Nkalimeng Mothobi, said many men are serving prison sentences for offences such as murder and sexual crimes.

He noted that the programme seeks to identify the root causes of gender-based violence and address challenges that often remain unresolved.

Mr. Mothobi said the dialogue will provide a platform for discussions on gender-based violence, reclaiming men’s identity and promoting healing.

Head of Social Services at Men Psycho Emotional First Aid, Ms. Liako Moabeng, said society expects men to protect and provide for their families, yet little attention is given to their mental health and the challenges they face.

She said women have an important role in raising children and can contribute to empowering men, which could help reduce gender-based violence. Ms. Moabeng added that the programmeprovides a safe space where men can be heard and supported in finding solutions to their challenges.
