Mohale’s Hoek, Feb.13 — The Project Coordinator from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Mr. Mathatela Ntsatsi says Ozone layer depletion does not only lead to the loss of immunity to diseases, more skin cancers and eye cataracts, but also impacts negatively on plants productivity.
Mr. Ntsatsi stated this at a 2-day regional workshop aimed at sensitizing district officials of line Ministries about the implementation of O-Zone and Non-Ozone depleting substances (ONDS) Regulations 2024, courtesy of Lesotho Meteorological Services, (LMS) by asserting that regulations will protect the O-Zone layer while assisting the country to control how and when various substances can be used.
He further noted that the 1985 Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer called for voluntary measures to reduce emissions of Ozone -depleting substances (ODS), which means protecting the potentially harmful impact on human health and the environment through modification of the ozone layer, and Lesotho ratified the convention in 1994. . .
