MASERU — The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Pharmacy Association of Lesotho (PAL) and the Lesotho Medicines Regulatory Authority (LeMeRa), held a seminar in Maseru on Friday to commemorate Pharmacy week under the theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacy.”
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Julia Matsanya from the Pharmaceutical Department said the theme serves as a reminder of the vital role pharmacists play in improving health services across Lesotho.
“Pharmacists continue to serve communities with dedication despite challenges such as staff shortage of qualified personnel,” she said.
Mrs. Matsanya emphasized that a strong pharmaceutical system contributes to quality healthcare and that safeguarding the integrity of medicines is essential. “Pharmacists play a key role in ensuring proper use of medication and in protecting lives,” she said, adding that collaboration among healthcare workers is crucial to achieving good health for all Basotho.
Mrs. Matsanya also expressed pride in officially launching Pharmacy Week, noting that the Ministry values the impact pharmacists make in their communities.
Presenting on medicine regulation and policy, Mrs. Mponang Lerotholi from LeMeRa explained that Parliament enacted the Lesotho Medicines and Medical Devices Control Authority Act 2023, which established LeMeRa. . .
