PM MEETS BLOCK FARMERS

Maseru, Feb. 08 — The Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane says it is high time the country produce food for itself instead of buying it from other countries.

This, he said during his meeting with block farmers held in Maseru on Thursday with the objective to discuss in depth food production issues with farmers and share ideas on what the government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition could do to promote food production as well as to share achievements, challenges and map the way forward.

Mr. Matekane said a report from the Ministry indicates that 70 percent of food is imported from South Africa.

He said the country has for a long time been faced with a challenge of hunger and poverty, saying inability for Lesotho to provide food for herself tarnishes her image.
