NO PHAT’SOANE IN THIS YEARS AFCON FINAL

Maseru, Feb. 08 — The elite international Assistant Referee this country has ever produced, Mr. Souru Phat’soane will not be able to officiate in 2023 Cote d’Ivoire Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals set for Sunday after returning back home on Wednesday.

Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Media Officer, Mr. Mikia Kalati told the Agency on Thursday that Mr. Phat’soane returned home on Wednesday from Cote d’Ivoire where was part of the match officials of the continental AFCON finals which started on January 13 and will end on Sunday.

He said the reason why Mr. Phat’soane will not appear in this year’s AFCON final is because the Confederation of African Football (CAF) considers many factors before assigning the match officials for certain games.

For instance, he said since in the AFCON semi-finals there were two nations such as South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) worked against Mr. Phat’soane to get a chance of going to officiate in the finals due to him also coming from the same region.
