Maseru, March 01 — The Prime Minister (PM) Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane unveiled the new National Security Service (NSS) Headquarters building at the event held in Maseru on Friday.
Speaking at the event, the PM said the new building will go a long way in assisting NSS to fulfill its mandate of protecting the nation.
“This new building was constructed to provide NSS staff with the facilities it needs so that it could effectively carry out its duties in protecting the nation,” said Mr. Matekane.
Moreover, he mentioned that with these expensive equipment in the building, they will work hard to fight cyber-crime and people who keep writing false news about the government.
He stated that the building preparations were made in 2009 and it was estimated to be built within three years but due to COVID-19 challenges, the construction had to stop.
“The budget of that building was M100 million but had to be increased to M121 million due to high prices of building materials,” said the Prime Minister.
Speaking at the same event, the Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Matjato Moteane mentioned that his ministry was the one designing that building, saying they created it in a way that would maintain the image of NSS.
Director General Pheello Ralenkoane stated that NSS Headquarters building is the first building they received from the government.
He stipulated that there are some rooms without electricity in the building expressing hope that the problem will soon be resolved.
NSS is a government security service that aims to protect and stop crime before it happens.
