Mohale’s Hoek, Oct. 09 — Chief Manuel Posholi from Morifi has praised villagers after showing up in numbers at a public gathering facilitated by the Ministry Of Environment and Forestry, aimed at introducing a new project titled Nature-based Solution Project.
The Soil and Water Conservation Director, Mr. Nkuebe Lerotholi articulated that the proposed project is aimed at addressing land degradation, desertification and drought challenges in the country, noting they have partnered with the International Union Of Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a funder based in Pretoria, RSA.
Mr. Lerotholi further stated that after gathering information from communities regarding projects of their choice, they will compile a report and sent it to the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the project is expected to commence around June, 2025, in Mohale’Hoek, Quthing and Mafeteng.
On the other hand, villagers showed their greatest challenge as water scarcity noting they draw water from springs which animals drink from, as water taps are far from the villages, making it even harder for the elderly and people with disabilities.
Villagers also pleaded to be assisted with a dam for irrigation purposes, Rosehip plantation, fruit trees, as well as lands which have remained fallow, due to various reasons unproductive soil.
