Qacha’s Nek, Oct. 02 — In the lead-up to Independence Day celebration on October 4, Melele kicked off a town-wide clean-up campaign on Thursday, led by District Administrator Habofanoe Pheku.
Speaking during the initiative, Pheku said the upcoming celebration will be observed in Ha Matlali, Tsoelike, with tree planting activities involving all districts in the southern region, led by several government ministers.
“This initiative should ignite the spirit of the celebration,” he said.

“Cleaning is important because when you arrive in any town or village, the first thing you notice is the cleanliness of the surroundings. That is why we must take responsibility to ensure our environment is clean, not just for today, but in the areas where we live. A clean town symbolizes that the people of Qacha’s Nek care about themselves and their community.”

Participants welcomed the initiative, though some street vendors said they were caught off guard. “We do want to take part in cleaning, but we were never invited. I only saw a lot of people coming from the main circle,” one vendor said. . .
