Maseru, Nov. 29 — As the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) commence globally, SECTION 2 has issued a scathing critique of the government’s inaction in tackling the alarming rise of GBV cases in Lesotho.
The campaign, which runs annually from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day), shines a spotlight on the urgent need for action to protect women and girls. SECTION 2 expressed outrage over recent harrowing incidents, including a case in Mokhotlong where a 34-year-old man brutally murdered his former lover.
The suspect, already facing a pending sexual assault case involving the victim, reportedly confronted her on November 17, demanding she withdraw the charges. When she refused, he stabbed her over 20 times before fleeing the scene. The discovery of his mobile phone at the crime scene led to his arrest. . .
