Maseru, Oct. 16 — Lesotho today joins the global community in commemorating World Food Day 2025, a day dedicated to raising awareness about hunger, nutrition, and sustainable food systems.
The event marks the 80th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), established in 1945, and this year’s theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future” highlights the importance of unity in building a world free from hunger.
The theme calls on governments, farmers, communities, and individuals to work together in transforming how food is produced, distributed, and consumed. It emphasises collective responsibility in ensuring that every person has access to nutritious, affordable, and sustainably produced food.
While the world produces enough food to feed everyone, millions still suffer from hunger, malnutrition, or diet-related diseases. The issue, experts say, lies not only in scarcity but also in inequality, waste, and lack of access.
