STAKEHOLDERS TO CONVENE ON SUBSTANCE USE PREVENTION, MENTAL HEALTH PROMOTION

Maseru, Mar. 09 — The Sunrise Rehabilitation Centre will host a National Stakeholders’ Workshop under the project titled ‘Coalition Building for Prevention of Substance Use and Promotion of Mental Health Awareness in Schools and Communities’.

The initiative comes in response to growing concerns over increasing cases of substance use among young people and rising mental health challenges in Lesotho.

It aims to strengthen prevention strategies and early intervention efforts through coordinated collaboration among national stakeholders.

According to the organisers, the workshop will serve as a platform to bring together key actors from government institutions, the education sector, civil society organisations, youth groups, mental health professionals and community leaders.

The gathering is expected to facilitate dialogue and collective action towards establishing the Lesotho Coalition for Prevention of Substance Use and Mental Health Promotion, which will focus on advancing awareness campaigns, prevention programmes and supportive interventions within schools and communities.

Sunrise Rehabilitation Centre also highlighted the important role of the media in informing the public and encouraging constructive conversations around substance use and mental health, particularly among the youth.

The workshop is expected to strengthen partnerships and lay the groundwork for a coordinated national response to substance abuse and mental health challenges affecting communities across the country.
